There are three reasons why white milk stains appear on pavers:
1. If you sealed the pavers with a surface coating to make the pavers look wet and glossy, after a few years most of these type sealers will break down and create a white type of stain.
2. If you sealed the pavers with a surface coating to make the pavers look wet and glossy – when the pavers have humidity underneath because of rain or poor drainage, when the pavers get hot from the sun the humidity will try to escape to the top leaching the salts inside the pavers (efflorescence) and because the paver were sealed with a coating now the efflorescence will be trapped between the paver and the coating creating white milky stains.
3. In some cases, the aged sealer and humidity will simultaneously create the same stain.
4. The solution is to remove the coating off the pavers and clean the efflorescence. Once this takes place we recommend sealing the paver with SealGreen Paver Sealer. This type of sealer will let the paver breath and eliminate or reduce the efflorescence stains.
5. Here are the products that you need to fix the problem.
a. SealGreen SCR 1600 Coating remover – This will remove the old sealer and efflorescence.
b. SealGreen Efflorescence Remover – If you still have efflorescence after the 1600 treatment then it step is necessary.
c. Seal the pavers with SealGreen Paver Sealer – This will help prevent all or most of the efflorescence in the future. This sealer will retain the natural look of the pavers.
