You have several options to prepare the floor. Each option will provide more or less variegation.
Starting with the best is:
1. BEST - The best is to grind the floor with 80 Grit metal diamonds (video), which remove a very thin layer of concrete and leave the surface open to get the best absorption and a clean surface. Color variegation will be more subdued mostly preferred by customers. We grind all concrete when possible.
2. BETTER – We recommend the chemical SealGreen SCR 1600 (video) which is applied and leaves overnight. This will remove most coatings and old sealers from the floor. However, it will not remove any layers of concrete so whatever the surface of the concrete is before grinding it will be after the treatment process. This process also allows the color stain to move more over the floor creating more variation of color.
3. OK - Scrub and Wash – Using a floor maintainer we scrub and wash the floor with SealGreen Color Stain Primer Cleaner (video). This will prepare the floor so it can receive color stain and sealers. However, this will not remove any stains, glues, sealers, or paints from the floor. It is hard to predict what the SealGreen Color Stain will do. We recommend using the Classic Colors Series because it covers ugly stains better. We know that it will variegate excessively, and fewer customers will like this final look. Color chart
